My road to recovery and how I treat myself

Wow, where to start!

I had just had my positive diagnosis back from Armin Labs in Germany.  It was confirmed, I had Lyme disease.  Well, in fact I had chronic Lyme disease because I had been bitten 15 years ago!  I wasn't a few weeks in to this illness, I was 15 whole years in to it!

I had no idea where to start on my road to recovery...

My GP doesn't have the foggiest about Lyme disease, neither do any of his colleagues, nor does anyone at the infectious diseases clinic in Bradford.  In fact there isn't one Lyme disease specialist within the whole of the NHS!  Can you believe that...NOT ONE SINGLE LYME SPECIALIST!  YIKES!  OH MY GOD....what do I do????

This was scary and I felt very, very alone!

I didn't know anyone else with the disease, I didn't know who to ask, so I asked google!

I researched and researched Lyme disease and healing

I came across mainly US articles, one in an online US magazine! It was very indepth and quite unusual for a magazine. I recognised and understood a lot of what it said on how to heal and hopefully overcome the disease. I gathered heaps of other holistic suggestions, information and management skills from elsewhere and before I knew it I was embarking on my new unknown journey of recovery.

Needless to say, my research went on for over a year, it wasn't instant.  I was very ill at this point and virtually bedridden. Whilst in bed I would have moments of clarity throughout the day, when I could actually sit up and make notes from the internet.  These moments of clarity would last for about 5 minutes before I would have to go back to sleep.  I had around 2 of these intervals throughout the day, that was it!  And, during these intervals I would have to eat of course!   Absolutely terrrible times for me, and looking back now, I have no idea how I managed to stay so positive at such a low time...but I did!  I believe positivity may also be the key to my success!

I was left with no choice but to try and heal myself

This seemed like it was going to be a long shot...but I had to do something!!!  So, I took elements from various findings, those which seemed most appropriate, and recommendations on various supplements and herbs, some of which I had never heard of. Don't get me wrong, this was a confusing and very daunting task but I had to do something, I had to help myself, nobody else was... it seemed my only way forward.  It gave me hope and brought a smile to my face.  It gave me something to aim for, a goal!  So I began to take notes and made my supplement list from my findings.

I ordered everything on my list and waited for them all to arrive.  My plan was to start taking them all on the same day for maximum impact.  I didn't want to do it in dribs and drabs, I wanted to knock these horrible little Lyme bacteria for six!!!  Ha!

The morning of being in receipt of all these new supplements had arrived. I felt extremely apprehensive,  I didn't know what to expect but I had a feeling it would be good (that could be because I am a glass half full kind of person) who knows, but being a pessimist never got anyone anywhere in my mind!  I was excited!

The miracle outcome;

Believe it or not but...after popping supplements for only 3 days,  I woke up from the Lyme hell of drudgery I had been living in for the last 15 years.  It was truly amazing and felt like a miracle had happened!  It really did!  I was shocked!  It was almost disbelief!   It was like somebody had flicked a switch and said here's your life back!  I felt alive again, I could think, my mind wasn't foggy and more importantly I was out of bed and up and about walking around and doing normal things that healthy people take for granted.

I felt like I had returned from hell and it was an unbelievable feeling.  The fatigue subsided substantially, the vice in my had disappeared and I felt alert and well.  How could this be?  I mean of course I wanted to get better but I hadn't really expected such a sudden shift for the better in just 3 days!  It felt like a miracle had happened.

My treatment protocol

This treatment protocol WORKS FOR ME.  We are all individuals and what works for one may not work for another.  This is by no way a recipe for success for all Lyme disease sufferers but it did and continues to work for me.  I'm not a doctor or health care professional in any way, I'm just lucky to have stumbled on a concoction of supplements that actually work for my Lyme!

How I treat myself to this day!!!

First thing in the morning before I even get out of bed I take

1000mg activated charcoal (2 x 500mg) these help to rid the body of the toxins that have built up over night

I wait an hour before taking any other supplement as this gives the charcoal time to sweep my body.

Then throughout the day I take

1 x undecylenic acid capsule,

St. johns wort 1800mg (3 x 600mg) staggered throughout the day

Vitamin C 1000mg (5 x 200mg throughout the day)

Omega 3 fish oil 1000mg (1 x capsule)

Magnesium 1000mg (2 x 500mg) 1 in the morning and one at night

Serrapeptase 250,000 iu (1 x tablet)

Milkthistle, dandelion, yellow dock and beet root liver cleanse 1850mg (1 x capsule)

Probiotic 50 billion CFU/g (1 x capsule before bed) and at least an hour after taking anything else

Finally once a week I take a  Vitamin D3 10,000 iu (1 x capsule)

I know it seems alot and you've probably never heard of some of these, I hadn't but blimey have they turned my life around. From being virtually bedridden up until I started on the above, I am now definitely not bedridden. I feel alive, I feel well and I am actually living my life again now. Don't get me wrong, I'm not cured, I have had many herxheimer reactions along the way (thats what its called when some of the bacteria die off), but I have recovered swiftly and I'm at a point now that I can't actually remember my last herx reaction! Whoop!

The downside, sorry there usually is one! For alot of Lymies, we were diagnosed too late. We were beyond the cure from the antibiotis, which can only happen in the early stages. Often, those who have suffered for years find they have developed another illness along the way, triggered by the Lyme. For me it's an illness called MCAS, which basically means I have allergic reactions to everyday things like chemicals in the atmosphere and loads of different foods! Alas, another learning curve for me, which I am cracking again!!!

If anyone reading this can take a little comfort that there is hope then I will give myself a pat on the back. I don't want anyone to suffer at the hands of those horrible bacterial spirochetes, they're nasty and will try to ruin you. Think positively and keep your glass half full. I'm only here at the end of a message if anyone wants to talk. Take care all and beware the bloody tick!!! Lisa xxx
